MPN Athletics Holiday Camping and Training Programme Fall-Out

MOBIL Producing Nigeria Unlimited, which currently sponsors a grassroots athletics programme in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has reaffirmed its readiness to continue supporting sports development in the country.

The company has also assured that as a good corporate citizen of Nigeria, it would relate excellently with governments at all levels through its developmental support programmes and projects, one of which is the just concluded Athletics Holiday Camping and training programme for schools and colleges in Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking in Uyo at the end of the two-week holiday camping programme, Mobil’s General Manager, Public and Government Affairs, Paul Arinze, said, “This has been our signature programme in the development of youths and grassroots sports in Akwa Ibom State. It was put together to hone the styles, develop the skills and improve the capabilities of the 200 students, who won medals at the last championships in March this year.”

Represented by Manager, Joint Venture Operations, Mrs. Regina Udobong, the MPN official expressed happiness with an initiative whose “developmental objectives have continued to be met through outstanding performances by the athletes in National and international competitions.”

He recalled that the last time the programme held was in 2013 in Calabar and the dividends included Aniekeme Alphonsus, who is currently not only Nigerian, but also African champion and is a member of the Nigerian delegation to the ongoing Commonwealth Youth Championships in Samoa, New Zealand.

“This year we are grateful to the Akwa Ibom State Government for making us use the excellent sports facility that is the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium and our communities for providing the enabling environment for us to thrive.
