The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Mobile Court, Kakau Unit in Kaduna, has convicted 25 motorists of various offences.

Mr Fawzy Garba, a legal officer in the commission, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Kaduna that the commission would pay special attention on road users during Eid el-Kabir till Sept. 28.

He said that among the 25, three were convicted of driver’s licence violation, 10 for overloading, three for worn out tyres, four for number plate violation and five for speed limit violation.

He, however, said that the rest five arrested persons have been discharged.

The Sector Commander, Mr Francis Udoma, told NAN that the commission instituted the mobile court to ensure zero road crash, injury and death during and after Eid el-Kabir.

“Intensive special patrol and the mobile court are aimed at addressing the spate of avoidable road crashes usually associated with the surge of human and vehicular traffic during Eid el-Kabir.

“All our men are on the road to arrest all defaulters on our highways and our goal is to reduce unexpected death of road users due to drivers’ carelessness or road obstructions.

“We will arrest drivers who overload their vehicles, drivers with no licence, drivers who over speed as well as drivers with worn out tyres.

Udoma said FRSC would not relent in its efforts to change the driving culture of road users in the country.

“Driving is a noble profession and we want only professional drivers on our high ways, because if only experienced and professional drivers plight our roads, accident will reduce drastically.

“We will be very thorough in the operation and so, we need the cooperation of everybody to keep our road safe,’’ he said.
