Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has congratulated the management of Sunshine Stars of Akure on the invitation of six of the team’s players to the national team.

Speaking in Akure yesterday, the governor, who could not hide his joy over the development, charged the players to be good ambassadors of the state while on national duty.

The six Sunshine Stars’ players in the Super Eagles camp are Dayo Ojo, Prince Aggreh, Tunde Adeniji, Eze Stephen, Ezenwa Ikechukwu, and Paul Onobi. Mimiko said: “It is a thing of joy to hear the news of their invitation to the national team; it shows recognition of their qualities and potential.

It also tells more about our efforts to take football development to the next level and make the state the hub of grassroots football development. “As we are happy over this development, it is important for the players to know that they are representing the entire good people of the state, hence the need to be of good conduct and be good ambassadors of the state.”

He charged the players to work hard in order to make their invitation and participation in the national team assignment permanent. “I want to appeal and challenge the players to show high level of determination and commitment as well as hard work that will convince Coach Sunday Oliseh and his entire coaching crew of the need to always have them in their plans.

We know the Management of Sunshine led by its President, Akin Akinbobola has done a great job by exposing the players, it is now time for them (the players) to show their qualities,” he added.

He said the invitation of six players from the club to the national team “points to the fact that the Akin Akinbobola -led management of the club is working in the right direction to achieve the set standards.

It is also to show that the vision and mission as well as the aim of establishing the football agency which is the umbrella body of Sunshine Stars are being realised.

I hope the other players will continue to work hard so that they too will also have this type of opportunity.” Dayo Ojo and Tunde Adeniji, who is the current leading goal scorer in the league with 13 goals, graduated from the academy of the Ondo State Football Agency, Rising Stars Academy.
