LG clears drains to avert flood

The Malammadori Local Government Council of Jigawa on Thursday said it had embarked on clearing of drains to avert flooding in the area.

Malam Sani Haruna, the Head of Social Development Department of the council, told newsmen in Malammadori.

Haruna said that officials of the council and residents participated in the two-day exercise in Malammadori and other major towns in the area.

According to him, the exercise is imperative to enhance sanitation and allow easy flow of rain water in the communities.

Haruna said that the council had also distributed 1, 000 sacks to be used in erecting temporary embankment at Arki and Tashena communities.

He added that the council had also conducted rallies to sensitise communities that were prone to flood on the need to construct embankments to prevent water from submerging farmlands and houses.

Haruna advised the people to desist from dumping waste in drains and waterways as well as to keep their environment clean.
