The Special Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom On Media and ICT, Tahav Agerzua has revealed that the wage bill of the State rose from N2.7 billion to N3.7 billion because the APC led government has resumed payment of full salaries and overheads earlier abandoned by the immediate past administration.

Agerzua was reacting to the newspapers reports accredited to a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Benue State, Mr. Godwin Ayihe, who had sought to know why the state wage bill has risen above N2.7 billion.

“Hitherto, the past administration had effected deductions from salaries of civil servants for several months. Overheads were also not paid to ministries, departments and agencies for months. Governor Samuel Ortom commenced the payment of full payment of salaries and overheads in May,” he explained.

Ortom’s aide informed that this development has made it impossible for the figure to remain at N2.7 billion, stressing that even at the new wage bill, his boss had expressed discomfort and directed a staff audit, which is currently going on.
