Giant of Africa Foundation, Milo map route to basketball growth
Giants of Africa Basketball Foundation in conjunction with Nestle Milo has reinstated their commitment to the continued development of young players.
The 12th edition of the summer camp began yesterday at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos. It will end tomorrow.
Speaking at a press briefing on the programme, Giant of Africa coordinator, Masai Ujiri, said the major aim of the clinic was to groom and nurture young talents on the rudiments of the game in Nigeria and Africa, explaining that the Giant of Africa Foundation had earned remarkable achievement over the years following the development of the programme in four countries.
“Giant of Africa Foundation is aimed at assisting young Nigerian Basketball players realize their dreams in the dunking game. We are happy that the programme that had been taking place in Nigeria and Kenya will now expand to two other African countries, South Africa and Rwanda. We have been facing challenges in getting more youths learn basketball in Nigeria because of the poor level of facilities,’’ he said.
Also speaking at the event, representative of Nestle Milo, Bola Awadu, assured Milo would continue to sponsor the game, saying the programme would help young basketball players develop and achieve life goals and become better players in future.
He introduced the international coaches, who will participate at the event, to include Masai Ujiri (General Manager, Toronto Raptors), Patrick Mutombo (Asst. Coach, Denver Nuggets), Ime Udoka (Asst. Coach, San Antonio Spurs), Jama Mahlalela (Asst. Coach, Toronto Raptors) and Patrick Englebrecht (Toronto Raptors International Scouting Director).
Nigeria-based coaches, who have worked with the programme over the years, will also take part in this edition.
