hockeyThe head coach of the Union Bank Hockey team, Tunde Odedokun, on Sunday said the just-concluded Nigeria Hockey Federation (NHF) Super League gave players the opportunity to evaluate their skills.

Eight male and six female teams participated in the league which held from Aug. 8 to Aug. 15 in Kaduna.
Odedokun, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), described the league as “highly encouraging for both players and coaches’’.

He, however, said that the NHF deserved commendation for the success of the event.
This year’s super league was much more encouraging and all the players and coaches worked hard to ensure that their teams excelled.

Though the standard of officiating was a bit low but the event was a success, if we put other things into consideration,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, Augustine Balewa, secretary of the NHF, told NAN that the federation would build on the success of the just-concluded league to prepare for its forthcoming league tentatively fixed for October.

Balewa said that the body had yet to decide on the venue for the league.
NAN reports that Niger and Kaduna States won the male and female events, respectively, after gaining the highest points in the round robin Super League.
