Speaker Rated Abia Least Indebted

ABIA State House of Assembly, in its bid for see that those affected by the sickle cell anaemia disorder are known to fast track their medical attention during times of emergency, has made it mandatory for tertiary and other institutions of learning in the state to ensure that their students are upon admission, tested clinically to determine their blood groups and genotypes and reflect them in their identity cards.

This follow the resolution the house yesterday, in which, it also made it mandatory that before couples are issued with marriage certificates, the marriage registry must ensure that the couples were clinically examined for blood groups and genotypes.

The resolution, which was sequel to the motion moved by the Majority Leader, Mr Chinedum Orji, of the PDP representing Umuahia Central Constituency, stated that complying with the resolution’s mandate would help save the lives of affected people in time of emergency.

Also, the Speaker of the House, Hon Martins Azubuike, of PDP representing Isiala Ngwa North Constituency, has rated Abia state as the least indebted state in the country, saying that the house remained committed to partnering the state executive arm to move the state forward.
