Nigeria’s Masai Ujiri, who is one of the best rated general managers in the NBA; Patrick Mutombo of Denver Nuggets and former national team star, Ime Udoka, who is now with San Antonio spurs, has been confirmed as coaches of the three-day 2015 Giants of Africa basketball camp.

The Giants of Africa Basketball Foundation, in conjunction with Nestle Milo, is sponsoring the annual Top 50 summer camp, which will hold from August 3 to 5 at the Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos.

Other coaches expected in the country to participate at this event are Jama Mahlalela (Asst. Coach Toronto Raptors) and Patrick Englebrecht (Toronto Raptors International Scouting Director).

The organisers yesterday revealed that also in the team are some Nigeria-based coaches, who have worked with the programme over the years.

They include Adeka Daudu (Technical Director Mark Mentors), Emmanuel Odah (F.C.T Rocks/Asst. Coach D’Tigress), Lateef Erinfolani (Lagos Islanders), Peter Ahmedu (Mark Mentors) and Michael Akuboh (Scout Toronto Raptors).

According to a release by the organisers, “In addition to the court session with the youngsters this year, the programme will be hosting two documentary crews from Toronto, Canada: the Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment (MLSE) and the RIM Blackberry Crews, who will be shooting a documentary to commemorate the founder (GOA), Ujiris’ journey in basketball.

“Ujiri has announced that they will be holding camps in three other countries across Africa for the first time. Celebrating its 12th year supporting the growth of basketball in Africa, Giants of Africa will be expanding its camps from Nigeria and Kenya to include Ghana and Rwanda this summer. Camps will be held in Ghana from August 7-9; Kenya from 10 -12 and Rwanda from 13-15.”

Speaking on the event, Ujiri said, “Running the Giants of Africa camps every year has become very important to us. We have to give back and encourage the youth.”

He added that the camps ‎bring together top coaches from across the country to help run the sessions and are designed to help young basketball players develop athletically, achieve life goals and become better players.
