Rep tips Tinubu as APC’s BoT chairman
A member of the lower chamber of the National Assembly representing Ijesa South Federal Constituency Hon. Israel Ajibola Famurewa has urged the leadership of All Progressive Congress {APC} to close rank and allow former governor of Lagos state, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu to head the Board of Trustees of the ruling party.
He said Tinubu not only rightly deserves to be chairman BoT of the party in view of his high capacity to work with people from different political persuasion but because of immense contribution to the birth and sustenance of the party.
Addressing reporters at his country home, Ilesa, Osun state on topical issues, he noted that the APC should pride itself in having the calibre of Tinubu in its fold saying that the cap of the BoT chairmanship fits the National Leader of the party the more because according to him many people from the northern axis of the country are already occupying prominent leadership position at government level.
Famurewa, reflected on the crisis within the party stressing that a big party such as APC controlling the central government cannot but have some hiccups but would certainly overcome them.
His words, ’’We may not need to search further on who to be the chairman of Board of Trustees of our great party when we are blessed with the presence of a leader like the former Lagos state governor, Senator Bola Tinubu. I think he has the needed qualities and organisational skill to head that sensitive position’’.
On the accusation by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party [PDP} that Osun state government is planning to lay off workers in view of the challenges facing it on regular payment of salaries, Famurewa dismissed the insinuations saying the main pre-occupation of Governor Rauf Aregbesola is how the state would shore up the current N1.6billion Internally Generated Revenue [IGR} to augment the falling federal allocation.
He said, ’’I know the governor is not thinking along the line of reduction of workers because of the current challenges. What is required of us now in Osun is to think out of the box the more and increase the drive for revenue generation so that the government can have more money to meet its obligations.
Famurewa said APC as a growing party needs a disciplined character to manage its affairs at the top level to enable the party deepen its roots and provide good governance to Nigerians..
According to him, the choice of Tinubu for the sensitive post of chairman, APC Board of Trustees, should be welcome by anyone that wants APC to survive for long since many of the key positions at government level are being occupied by people from the North.
He said, “Over the years, former Lagos state governor, Senator Bola Tinubu has demonstrated he has capacity and courage to lead and galvanize men into action. He remains the political rallying point in the Southern Nigeria now and it will amaze you the huge followership he also enjoys in the North.
“A character such as this is what APC needs as BoT chairman. Apart from possessing capacity to lead our party, in the spirit of fairness, a leader from the Southern part should be given the position with many top government officials coming from the North,” Famurewa said.
Commenting on the insinuations that Governor Rauf Aregbesola may be considering sacking workers to reduce the state’s wage bill, Famurewa said: “we are not thinking towards that direction for now. We know what we are supposed to do in a situation like this and are doing it.
“Osun state government is working on raising its IGR to shore up that fall in the revenue coming from the federation account. Definitely, Governor Aregbesola is not thinking towards that direction for now.”
He predicted an amicable resolution of the crises rocking National Assembly in no distance future and dismissed claims that the House shifted its resumption date for fear of another round of chaos on resumption.
The federal parliamentarian hinted that the former resumption date was fixed without considering Eid el-Fitr holidays, pointing out that shortly after the holidays was announced, it became apparent that the lawmakers could no longer reconvene on the earlier date.

So even Tinubu too is begging to be accommodated.
We will review and take appropriate action.
