NSE records N17.6 billion turnover in one week
A turnover of 1.269 billion shares worth N17.570 billion changed hands in 18,933 deals on the floor of the Exchange last week.
This volume of shares traded, was , however, lower than a total of 1.439 billion shares valued at N26.406 billion, exchanged in 18,110 deals during the preceding week.
Precisely, at the close of trading last week, the financial services industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 981.649 million shares valued at N8.865 billion traded in 11,303 deals; thus contributing 77.36 per cent and 50.46per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
Similarly, the oil and gas industry followed with a turnover of 121.164 million shares worth N1.989 billion in 1,768 deals.
The third place was occupied by the consumer goods industry with 79.966 million shares worth N5.265 billion in 2,914 deals.
Trading in the top three equities namely – Access Bank Plc., Zenith International Bank Plc and United Bank for Africa Plc., (measured by volume) accounted for 523.853 million shares worth N5.547 billion in 3,383 deals, contributing 41.28per cent and 31.57per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
Also traded during the week were a total of 9,630 units of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) valued at N734,568.22 executed in 22 deals compared with a total of 1,945 units valued at N533,746.50 transacted last week in 23 deals
A total of 1,692 units of Federal Government Bonds valued at N1.753 million were traded this week in three deals compared to last week where no trade on bonds were recorded.
The NSE All-Share Index and Market Capitalization depreciated by 0.96 per cent to close on Friday at 32,538.34 and N11.107 trillion respectively. Similarly, six of the Indices finished lower during the week, while two other Indices: NSE Oil/Gas and NSE Industrial Goods closed higher by 2.27 per cent and 0.13 per cent respectively.
33 equities appreciated in price during the week, higher than 22 equities of the preceding week. 36 equities depreciated in price, lower than 54 equities of the preceding week, while 124 equities remained unchanged, higher than 117 equities recorded in the preceding week.
