NSC inaugurates 12-man committee to review national sports policy
The National Sports Commission on Tuesday in Abuja inaugurated a 12-man committee to review the 2009 National Sports Policy in line with contemporary sports administration.
Inaugurating the committee, Alhasan Yakmut, the Director-General of NSC, said the non-implementation of the national sports policy had bedevilled decision making in the sector.
“You must therefore collectively ensure that subsequent national sports policies are implemented and used as a guide in the administration of sports in Nigeria,’’ he said.
He urged the committee to provide the guidelines that would ensure sports took advantage of the opportunities provided by ICT.
Yakmut asked the committee to invite all relevant stakeholders who could add value to the policy in order to produce a document that would be generally accepted.
He listed the terms of reference for the committee to include condition of athletes and officials’ engagement and development, collaboration with military, paramilitary and tertiary institutions.
Others are the role of ICT and information management in sports governance and insurance and marketing companies and the role of state and local government in sporting activities.
The committee members include Lizzy Onyenwenwa, Director of Planning in the commission who is the chairman, Anaesthesia George as Secretary, Olalekan Alabi, Assistant Secretary and Clement Ojile.
Responding on behalf of the members, Onyenwenwa pledged the committee’s commitment to ensure proper review of the national sports policy.

A lot have to be done to make sport a big marketing industry making schools as the production engine, from high schools to universities. This is how it is done in most advanced countries. Companies should be involved to sponsor competitions in different sports in schools by providing kits and training facilities. If this is well articulated, cultism, kidnapping, armed robbery will be greatly reduced.i wish this committee luck
We will review and take appropriate action.
