The Commissioner for Health, Dr Kabiru Getso, gave the commendation on Monday while monitoring the exercise in Garun Malam and Kumbotso Local Government Areas of the state.

The commissioner said that the traditional and religious leaders had contributed immensely in reducing the resistance to the vaccine amongst residents in rural areas.

He urged vaccinators and other health officials in the state to intensify effort to achieve the set goals.

Getso, however, pointed out that the present administration was seriously committed to the provision of healthcare services to the teeming populace, especially children below the age of five.

To the parents and other stakeholders, the commissioner urged them not to relent in the fight against polio.

He explained that the state and the country had recorded one year without polio but stressed that all stakeholders must be more committed in order to maintain the trend.

NAN reports that over three million children are expected to be immunised against polio in the 44 local government areas of the state during the exercise.
