THE dissolution of the caretaker committees of the 25 Local Governments in Niger State may have pitched the party, All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state against the Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello.

Already, some party loyalists from the councils have expressed dismay over the decision of the governor to hand over the affairs of the councils to Directors of Personnel Management (DPM) in their respective councils, describing it as undemocratic.

Some of the party loyalists who spoke to The Guardian described the development as very disappointing and unfortunate, especially when the governor had earlier asked the party to submit names of those to be appointed as caretaker committee chairmen.

The former Chairman, Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Zone B, Alhaji Aminu Bello in his reaction, said the governor should realise that some people at the grassroots have worked for the success of the party and needed to be compensated.

According to him, “the decision of the governor shows that he lacks political experience because after politicians have worked for your success at the poll, you now dumped them and said you are going to work with civil servants. The Directors are civil servants, so that is very unfair”.

He therefore reminded the governor that the Directors couldn’t deliver the party during the local government election, adding “it is the caretaker Committee chairmen that will work for the party during the council poll.”

But the party chairman, Mallam Jibrin Iman said the party is in support of the decision by the governor to dissolve the caretaker committee, contrary to insinuation that the party may be heading to collision course with the governor.

It could be recalled that the governor, through his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Dooba, last week announced the immediate dissolution of the caretaker committees in the 25 local governments put in place by the immediate Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led administration.

After the expiration of the tenure of elected chairmen in March this year, the former governor, Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu decided to constitute caretaker committee, sighting the just concluded general elections as his reason for not conducting election into the councils.

Briefing newsmen in Minna, the Chief Press Secretary, said that‎ the caretaker chairmen have been ordered to hand over to the Director of Personnel Management (DPM) in their various local government councils.
