Gunmen abduct APC female leader in Nasarawa

A STAUNCH leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Nasarawa State, Mrs. Mary Enwongulu has been abducted in her country home at Nasarawa Eggon in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The Guardian gathered that Enwongulu, a woman leader, who was a candidate for Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon /Wamba Federal Constituency was kidnapped at about 2a.m. last Monday by some armed hoodlums.

It was gathered from her personal assistant, Miss Mary Audu, who was at the scene of the incident that the gangsters came at about 2a.m. “I was together with her in the house when the abductors came into the house around 2am and abducted her, I pleaded with them to leave her but they went out with her,” she said.

Mr. Joel Tanko, her security guard, also explained that he ran for safety immediately he heard gunshots at the gate of the house.

“From this point, they shot at the gate, forced it open, entered the house and took away my madam to an unknown destination,” said the guard.

Confirming the report the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ismaila Numan, said, “We have just received information this morning that Mrs. Mary Enwongulu had been abducted by kidnappers and we immediately mobilised our men to make sure that they rescue her from the hand of the abductors.

Meanwhile, Governor Umaru Tanko Al Makura of Nasarawa state came to the rescue of three accident victims along Azuba road in Lafia, the state capital, even as he released his car to rush the victims to the hospital.

The governor who was on his way back from Abuja was forced to stop at the scene of the accident where a bus belonging to New Nyanya Transport Company with registration number GL 333 SMK, Lagos, somersaulted into the bush.

Eyewitnesses said the accident, which occurred around 6p.m, involved a three-year old girl, her mother and two other people and it was as results of over speeding and overtaking by the driver of the bus.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ismaila Numan, said the incident occurred as a result of reckless speed and dangerous overtaking. He appealed to motorists to always prevail on drivers of commercial buses to comply with traffic regulations and call them to order in cases of over speeding.
