No fewer than 30 houses were destroyed while 70 households were displaced in Mangwarori community of Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State due to flooding.

A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who visited the community on Wednesday, reports that the incident occurred on Sunday night due to blockage of water passage because of ongoing construction work.

NAN reports that the flood completely washed away mud houses in the community.

A resident, Malam Musa Jafaru, said that the downpour on Sunday lasted for about four hours while the blockage of drains led the water into the homes of residents.

Jafaru appealed to the Katsina State Government to relocate the community, saying the area had witnessed incessant flooding.

A victim, Lawal Dahiru, who said goods worth more than N5 million were destroyed in the flood, added that the culverts being constructed were too shallow to facilitate water passage.

Dahiru solicited support for the victims, particularly in the provision of foodstuff in view of the ongoing Ramadan.

When contacted, the Chairman of Dandume Local Government Council, Alhaji Ya’u Ahmad-NOA, said the council was making efforts to send relief materials to the victims.

The chairman, who spoke through his deputy, Alhaji Magaji Yusuf, said he had inspected the damage caused by the flood and had communicated the development to the state government.

He called on the Katsina State Government to relocate the community as residents had been complaining of flooding in the area.
