The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has described the decision of a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos to acquit former minister for aviation Femi Fani-Kayode of two-count charge of money laundering as shocking.

The presiding judge Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia said the case against Fani-Kayode, who has since changed his name to Oluwafemi Olukayode to celebrate his acquittal, was not strong enough and that the EFCC did not provide “copious evidence” that could link Fani-Kayode to money laundering.

In a terse statement released on its website, the EFCC said the ruling came unexpectedly and said that it would respond to the ruling appropraitely after studying the judgement.

” Today received with shock, the ruling of Justice Rita Ofili- Ajumogobia of the Federal High Court Lagos, acquitting Mr. Femi Fani-kayode, a former minister of aviation, of the two count charge of money laundering preferred against him by the Commission.

“The Commission is making effort to obtain a Certified True Copy of the ruling, to enable it respond appropriately after careful review of the judgment.”

EFCC, what shocks sensible people more is the fact that you guys have not seen the need to investigate and arraign the most corrupt Nigerian ever: Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The evidence against him is overwhelming.

…..As far as EFCC act as a witch-hunt for a certain set of people they will never succeed in their fight against corruption…..for them to make headway – about 99% if not every leader or public post holder in Nigerian should be tried for corruption — not hand pick of political opponent….. And — the EFCC official too are also corrupt — To proof this – the former chairman Nuhu Ribadu should be audited on what he worth before and after the position as chairman of the commission – if he will not be found wanting — if we want to fight -” CORRUPTION “- we should be serious and sincere about it and not a witch-hunt form. — EFCC too is ”CORRUPT” with that no positive result will come out from them…

@Davs. With that as your suggestion, it means all Nigeria’s civil servants including the police, the army, the politicians, the prison worker and even the judges themselves should be rounded up the same day.

P.M.B. must strengthen anti-graft agencies. This ruling is poor.

This is rubbish…this shows that the judiciary has been the ones standing in the way of anti-graft agencies in prosecuting corrupt individuals. PMB look into this.
