Factionalisation threatens Anambra PDP congress

THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State is back to the trenches in a battle that could abort this week’s state congresses. Already, different factions have emerged with varied postulations during their separate media conferences at the weekend.

However, it is doubtful that the congresses would hold as announced, as Comrade Tony Nwoye’s group is insisting on a postponement by at least one week to enable its aspirants purchase the necessary bank drafts for the application forms.

While the Ken Emeakayi group says it is ready to face the congress, having prepared since January when it became due, the Nwoye group is blaming the Ramadan public holidays for its lack of preparedness.

Also, the Senator Ekwunife group seems ready but has some axe to grind with some contestants, having insisted that it does not want any former member of the executive to participate, just as anyone from the Anambra North or South senatorial zone should not stand for the party chairmanship.

It is not certain where the whole scenario leaves the Chris Uba group, led by Ejike Oguebego, or the Nicholas Ukachukwu group, as some who moved to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) were said to have returned to the PDP.
