Eshua lists gains of National U-16 male cricket championship
Team Manager of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), Joseph Eshua, has said the forthcoming National Male U-16 Championship scheduled for Abuja would be targeted at identifying budding talents.
The event is scheduled to run on Saturday and Sunday.
Eshua told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone that each of the geo-political zones in the country would feature a team in the championship, adding that the regional development officers in each zones would be coordinators with coaches to select talented players from their zones.
“Our main objective is to discover players that have the potential to make it to the senior team in future. Each zone is expected to select the best players to compete with players from other zones and by so doing, we will be able to identify and nurture players.
“The North-East might not feature a team because of the insurgency currently ongoing in the zone,’’ he said.
He urged the selected players to make use of the championship to exhibit their talents, adding that immediately after the boys’ championship, the federation would also organise the female U-17 championship in Abuja.
