A SOCIO-CULTURAL GROUP, Benin Nation Congress (BNC) has called on President Muhamadu Buhari to probe the recently dissolved federal boards, especially the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) which it accused of abandoning numerous projects in some states like Edo. It noted that those completed were “far below standard.”

A statement by the group’s president, Aiyamenkhue Edokpolor, lamented that the commission could execute out shoddy jobs in the state despite the fact that Edo hosts the nation’s largest gas reservoir.
He, however, commended the President for the dissolution since “it was an aberration to anchor an anti-corruption regime on a questionable structure; as the we appeal to Mr. President to ensure that men and women of integrity are not sacrificed on the altar of expediency in the recruitment exercise.

“Nigerians’ expectations are so high in public service delivery; and in a country with avalanche of superlative manpower; it was expedient to discern result-oriented minds from political jobbers. We call on investigative bodies to probe all the agencies, especially the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs whose infinitesimal projects lacked credibility and durability.

“The Iguelaba Skill Acquisition Centre and Egba Housing project are national embarrassment by any scope of physiological inquiry. Edo State was completely relegated by the interventionist agency despite being the host to Nigeria’s largest gas reservoir. In our prayers to the Ministry for the dredging of Gelegele Seaport, ethnic consideration beclouded their sense of judgment as if the Ijaws in Edo State will not benefit from the landmark infrastructure. We call for painstaking inquiry into the Ministry,” the group stated.
