President Muhammadu Buhari will on Wednesday, July 29, pay a visit to Cameroon with one main topic on his card to discuss with his Cameroonian counterpart, Paul Biya: how to rein in the campaign of terror by Boko Haram.

“President Buhari is going to Cameroon on Wednesday. He will hold talks with President Biya on arrival on Wednesday and the issue of Boko Haram will be central in their discussion,” Special Adviser to the president on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina said.

Buhari, himself while delivering a speech at the United States Institute of Peace, Washington DC during his recent visit to the US, said, “Upon my return to Nigeria from the US, I shall visit Cameroon on the 29th of July to further strengthen our sub-regional efforts at countering terrorism.”

He has paid similar visits to Chad and Niger and hosted a summit of Head of States and Government of the Lake Chad Basin Commission in Abuja on June 11, 2015.

Since assumption of office, President Buhari has focused on rallying a more cohesive sub-regional effort that could contain Boko Haram’s activities.

“Nothing has emphasized our common humanity and destinies more than the dastardly crimes against our people by the insurgents, who have maimed and raped our women and children and held our nations in a vicious strangle hold. Our campaign against insurgency must therefore, be directed on all fronts, starting from limiting their capacity to access funds and weapons. We must, therefore, strengthen our cross border patrols and increase our capacity to gather and share intelligence. In this regard, I urge that all necessary steps be immediately taken to reinvigorate the Regional Intelligence Fusion Unit (RIFU),” he said at the summit with the presidents of Chad, Niger, Cameroon and Benin present.
