OdusileKWARA State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed has congratulated the new National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Mr. Waheed Odusile and other members of the National Executive Council over their weekend election into offices.

In a congratulatory message signed yesterday in Ilorin by Abdulwahab Oba, his Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed urged the new leadership of the NUJ to urgently use their good offices to evolve a good mechanism that would ensure adequate and commensurate remuneration for media practitioners in the country.

He urged employers of but also preach journalists to treat their employees with dignity adding, “Just as it is done with other professionals, because Journalism is too central for national growth and development to be left without an ombudsman to act as checks and balance.”

The Governor, who also commiserated with the former Deputy President of the union, Rotimi Obamuwagun, over Saturday’s loss of his wife, commended journalists for a peaceful conduct of the election and promised to create better and enabling environment for journalists working in the state.

Charging those who won in the election to be magnanimous in victories and the losers to be gallant in defeats, Ahmed counseled the new NUJ leadership to embrace an all inclusive governance strategy noting, “No house divided against itself would never be greater in glory.”
