Law firms operating in Africa has been called to augment and quickly amplify the level of sophistication of their practice by leveraging on technology and advanced knowledge.

This was as a result of the revelation that about 80% of the legal services consumed by businesses operating in Africa is carried out by Law Firms in New York, London and other sophisticated locations. And that only 20% of the demand is supplied by African law firms.

This revelation was made at a conference organised and sponsored by Nigeria’s foremost Legal Technologies Company, Grace Info Tech Limited, which was described as first of its kind International Bar Association conference with the title, “Investing in Africa Conference – Opportunities for Businesses and the Lawyers who Counsel Them” in New York, USA.

The LawPavilion Solicitors Toolkit (STK), also a first of its kind product from the stables of Grace Info Tech Limited, owners of the LawPavilion brand was showcased at the conference.

The STK is a software targeted significantly at Legal Practitioners who work in commercial and corporate circles.

The conference explored and identified challenges associated with tapping into Africa’s growth, including availability of information and tools to unlock Africa’s regulatory doors, and also have a firm grasp of the risks associated with investing and operating in sub-Saharan Africa.

The STK is a Central Bank of Commercial Law and Practice comprising of Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Laws of States, Regulations, Guidelines and Policies from MDAs, Decided Cases of the Federal High Court, National Industrial Court, Tax Appeal Tribunal, High Court of Lagos State, High Court of the FCT Abuja. The solution also contains Forms and Agreements, in templates which are editable whilst keeping the original boilerplate.

According to the Managing Director of Grace Info Tech Limited, Mr Ope Olugasa, the company’s decision to be Headline Sponsor of the IBA Investing in Africa Conference is predicated on the fact that Nigerian lawyers and the Nigerian legal community should not be absent at a forum where the profitability of Africa is going to be discussed.
