Bislak-Homes-2-16 02 15IN the quest to find lasting solution to leakages in buildings usually caused by plumbing defects that often leads to cracks in houses, Rifeng piping systems has introduced a maintenance free multilayer pipe that allows for a direct fitting straight to the outlets without creating an avenue for leaks in the walls.

The five-layer composite pipe made of crossed linked polyethylene overlapped welded aluminum and adhesive unites the advantages of metals and plastics and eliminate the disadvantages of both materials at the same time.

At a meeting with architects and building consultants held in Lagos, the Managing Director Rifeng, Mr. Tony Akahara noted that leakages area common problem in Nigerian buildings even with new ones. The building industry is bedeviled by manners of substandard products; more than 80 per cent of defects in buildings come from plumbing. More than 90 per cent of the plumbing problems occur as a result of the use of substandard materials for water supply, which give way easily because the supply lines are usually under pressure.”

“It is a huge problem for us as architects and many of us have gone to a lot of length to find permanent solution and that is why we brought a company like Rifeng to Nigeria. We didn’t want to have half measures but a lasting solution. We want to completely disrupt the use of substandard products in Nigeria; it is complete change in a way plumbing systems are used in Nigeria.

Mr. Akahara added that the company, which manufactures PPR and multilayer piping systems, is aimed at displacing PVCs and the galvanized, which are unhealthy and are prone to rust and leaks. “The piping system is so basic, with the right tools; you can fix it by yourself.”

According to the General Manager, Rifeng Mr. Adetokunbo Adeosun, he said that they have a complete pipe system for gas, water, air conditioning and for heating. “Experience has proved that the conventional pipes cannot withstand the test of time and when there is water leakage, it affects the integrity of the building and cause collapse. The conventional pipes are made of single products, which are usually plastic, but our product is made up of both plastic and metal.

On its cost effectiveness, he noted it is quite affordable on the long run. “When there are defects accrued from the use of the conventional pipes, you have to break your tiles, your walls and even the risk associated with bringing strange people into your house to fix faults makes it cost effective. Our pipe is flexible and so if you are piping and you get to a bend, you just bend the pipe unlike the conventional pipes, which requires that you cut and join with a bolt, and those connections are prone to leakages.”

Past Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Lagos state chapter, Mrs. Abimbola Ajayi, said “their pipes have a 50 – year warranty and like we always say, you can’t put a price tag on quality, if you want to use the regular pipes in the market, they are subject to leakages, bad workmanship among other
