The May edition of the Lagos HOMS public draw organized by the Lagos Mortgage Board has produced 42 new homeowners out of 80 applications received. Among the lots, 60 people were pre-qualified, while 20 applications were declined due to improper documentation.

In all, 12 schemes were made available for the draw, which include; Alhaja Adetoun Mustapha and Hon. Olaitan Mustapha Estate in Ojokoro, Hon Sontonwa and Oba Adeboruwa Estate in Ikorodu, Sir Michael Otedola Estate in Epe, Chief Anthony Enahoro Estate (1&2) in Ogba, Igando Gardens in Alimosho, Chios Gardens in Lekki Ajah, Mushin Scheme and Sangotedo in Ajah.

Speaking at the draw ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of the Board, Mr. Akinola Kojo Sagoe, said since inception of the scheme in March 2014 over 400 winners who have completed the necessary documentation have successfully been handed the keys to their respective apartments.

According to Sagoe, schemes such as Chief Anthony Enahoro Housing Scheme (1and2) in Ogba, Ilupeju Scheme and the Oba Lateef Adams Estate in Iloro are fully occupied, adding that work was on-going in 26 different sites across the state and they include; Omole Phase 1and 2, Oko-Oba in Agege, Ajara in Badagry, among others.”

He enjoined residents to be on the lookout for the Omole Scheme 1 and 2, which will be up for application in the next two months.

One of the beneficiaries, Dr Raqmat Adetutu, who won one bedroom apartment in Mushin, expressed her happiness, saying that when she first heard about the scheme from one of Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola’s speeches, she expressed doubt about its authenticity, not until she made enquires and applied.

Encouraging residents to partake, she said the process was less cumbersome, urging Lagos residents to continue paying their taxes so that government can continue to alleviate the suffering of the people especially in the area of housing.

The special Adviser, Project Implementation and Monitoring Unit, Mr. Suliaman Alabi Yusuf, who represented the Governor, congratulated the winners and thanked them for remaining loyal to Fashola’s Administration. He said the All Progressive Congress led government would ensure continuity of the project.

While confirming that work was ongoing in 26 new sites in various parts of the State, he advised residents to always consider the proximity of their workplace to the scheme they want to apply to, before submitting their application form.

This is necessary to avoid living very far away from their place of work if they eventually win.

The Deputy General Manager (Shared Services) Mr. Bayowa Foresythe in his remarks said hard work had sustained the scheme in the last one year. He thanked the staff of the Mortgage Board for being diligent in the discharge of their civic responsibilities. “So far about 645 winners have emerged since the inception of the Lagos HOMS Scheme.

Over 400 of the winners have successfully completed necessary documentation and the keys to their apartments have been handed over to them,” he said.
