Governor Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday sacked heads and boards of 82 agencies and departments of the Lagos State government.

The sack, which took effect immediately, was for the governor to constitute new heads that will implement his agenda in the state.

Ambode approved the sack at the conclusion of a two-week assessment of all agencies and departments. It was gathered that the mass sack was not unexpected with the change of baton at the top, even as some of the heads of agencies may be reappointed to serve in the new cabinet.

Among the affected parastatals are the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency; Lagos State Sports Endowment Fund; Lagos State Motor Vehicle Administration Agency; Lagos State Traffic Management Authority; Christian/ Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board; and Lagos State Fire Services.

Also affected are the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH); Primary Health Care Board; Lagos State Examination Board; Lagos State Scholarship Board; IBILE Holdings; Lagos State Health Service Commission; Lagos State Emergency Management Authority; Lagos State Electricity Board; and Public Works Corporation.

Some of the sacked officials were still unaware of the development as at press time yesterday. The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, HabibAruna, disclosed that the Civil Service Commission, Judicial Service Commission and the State Independent Electoral Commission were exempted.

Ambode, in a statement, commended the modest contributions of the members of the dissolved boards, just as he wished them well in their future endeavours. Meanwhile, the governor has approved the appointment of Mrs. AbimbolaShukrat Umar as the new accountant general of the state.

Umar, prior to her new appointment, was the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Her appointment, according to the statement, takes effect immediately.
