Abducted Kogi High Court judge regains freedom, 34 days after

THE Kogi High Court Judge abducted on May 25 has regained his freedom after 34 days in the kidnappers den.

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Samuel Ogunjemilusi, who confirmed the release of the judge yesterday in Lokoja, said the judge was set free on Saturday night between 10:00p.m. and 11:30 pm.

Ogunjemilusi was, however, unable to say where and how the judge was released or if any ransom was paid.

He disclosed that he had since been taken to a safe haven, adding that he was yet to be released to his family.

Chief Judge of the state, Justice Nasir Ajanah, who also confirmed the release of Justice Obayomi Samuel said: “We thank God for that but I cannot give you more information than you already have.”

It would be recalled that Justice Obayomi, the resident High Court Judge of Ebogogo in Adavi Local Council of Kogi State was kidnapped on Monday, May 25, at about 8:45 on his way to the office by a three-man gang all dressed in black.

The judge, whose police orderly, Cpl Usman Musa was shot dead on the spot, was driven away in his Toyota Yaris car from the GRA in Okene.

The abductors had demanded N150 million ransom for his release.

His kinsmen had started mourning him with the belief that he had been killed by his abductors after 34 days.
