THE Vice Chancellor, University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Prof Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, has inaugurated a 14-member committee to prepare grounds for celebration of the school’s 40th anniversary.

Njodi while inaugurating the panel recently at the varsity’s council chambers said that in the last 40 years, the school has witnessed tremendous achievements and remarkable transformations.

The institution was established on October 1, 1975 by the then Federal Military Government as the first university in the North East sub-region.

Njodi said that over the while, the university has expanded rapidly, both physically and in the area of academic programmes, through sheer determination and commitment to teaching, learning and research, and has become an important player in the society, despite the security challenges in its host state.

His words: “As an alumnus of this great university, it is gratifying and fulfilling for me to be the vice chancellor as the institution will be commemorating its 40th anniversary on October 1st, 2015.

“Besides my humble self, the immediate past vice chancellor, Professor Mohammed Daura, as well as the vice chancellors of Moddibo Adamawa University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi (ATBU) and Adamawa State University among others are also alumni of this great university.

“The institution is also proud to have three alumni recently elected as governors in their states. They are governors Kashim
Shettima of Borno State, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State and Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.
“This is in addition to many distinguished members of the national and state assemblies.
