Traditional medicine practitioners settle seven-year-old crisis

THE National Association of Nigerian Traditional Medicine Practitioners (NANTMP) has amicably resolved its seven-year-old leadership crisis.

Board of Trustees of the association, headed by Professor Magnus Adeyemi Atilade, held an extra-ordinary joint meeting with the executive body and the general membership to resolve all the issues pertaining to the crisis recently and dissolved the national executive, which had exceeded its one-year tenure.

In addition, a 10-man caretaker committee headed by Dr. Shehu Adamu (chairman) has been constituted to conduct an election into the association’s executive offices that would usher in, new executive committees both at the federal and the states chapters.

In a statement jointly signed by its life Board chairman, Professor Atilade and Dr. Enoch Ifeanyi Heart, Secretary Board of Trustees, in Lagos yesterday, the committee’s terms of reference also include recovering the association’s funds and property.

Other members of the 10-man committee are Dr. Enoch Ifeanyi Heart, secretary, Dr. Obodike member, South East, Dr. Shuba Maikudi, member, North Central, Dr. Muhammed Bello Kajuru, member, North West, Dr. John Buba, member, North East, Dr. Olukoya Idowu member, South West, Dr. Shaibu Otuye, member, South South, Dr. Ezekiel Aheruvo, member, North Central, and Pharm M. Jawa, Consultant.

The association, which was set up in 2006 by the Federal Ministry of Health to regulate the practice of traditional medicine in Nigeria, bad since 2009, been enmeshed in leadership crisis, resulting in four factions and court cases, which had since been withdrawn by all the concerned members to give room for amicable settlement of the crisis.
