PROPER furnishing of the house creates a pleasant ambience. However, it is also necessary to ensure that the place smells fresh, which will give the feeling of cleanliness.

PROPER furnishing of the house creates a pleasant ambience. However, it is also necessary to ensure that the place smells fresh, which will give the feeling of cleanliness.

This can be achieved with the use of your furniture and accessories because they are capable of creating odour if not well handled.

Musty smell in the home can emanate from wooden furniture, sink, and carpets especially during the period of rain. Some tips will keep this at bay and let fresh air pervade the place.

Wet carpets can develop musty smell. To check it, leave baking soda soda on carpeting for the night to absorb musty odours, and vacuum in the morning.

Wood furniture stored in damp, poorly ventilated condition can develop a musty odour. To eliminate the smell, place the pieces outside in the sun on a dry day. Remove all the drawers; open the doors for some hours. This will remove any remaining moisture and may improve the smell.

If the furniture cannot be placed outside at least put it in a well ventilated shed and direct a fan to blow air on all the pieces. Allow them to air out for several days. Scrub the surfaces with solution of 50 per cent laundry bleach and water.
