PricewaterHouseCooper pledges continued support for Chess4Change

PricewaterhouseCooper (PwC) Partner, Financial Services, Sam Abu, has described Chess as a game that requires strategic and critical thinking needed in everyday activities, especially by students.

Speaking on the opening day of the maiden Lagos State Chess Association (LSCA) Grand Slam event of Chess4Change sponsored by his firm, Abu said “PwC is supporting this event because we believe it is essential for their learning and to equip them and get Students grounded in applying strategic thinking to solve the day to day problems of the larger society.”
 
Akande Dahunsi Memorial Senior Secondary School led with three points on the opening day. Kings College, the hosts, followed with two points, while the other schools earned a point each. All the teams played two rounds of chess on a round-rubbing basis from which points were awarded.
 
Chairman of LSCA, Obafela Bank-Olemoh, said the association was working on making the game available to every student in Lagos State because chess is good for the workings of the brain.

“What matters most is your brain, with it, one can achieve anything in the world and chess helps in developing the brain,” declared Bank-Olemoh.
