Lagos chapter of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) has instituted a disability public enlightenment walk for Governor Babatunde Fashola.

The event tagged: ‘BRF’s Walk For Inclusive Lagos,’ is in recognition of his landmark achievements in the development of the lives of persons with disabilities in the state.

In a statement, the chairperson of the Lagos state chapter of JONAPWD, Deaconess Adedoyin Beyioku-Alase, emphasized that under Fashola, Lagos has become a reference point in Nigeria on issues concerning disability legislations, policies and programmes. “As far as persons with disability in Nigeria are concerned, the name BRF signifies a positive turning point in our history”.

Alase also said the efforts of the governor facilitated the signing into law of the Lagos State Special People’s law on the 24 of June, 2011, and its implementation through his inauguration of the Lagos State Office of Disability Affairs (LASODA) in July 2012.

She also listed the several policies and programmes, such as the policy on inclusive education, social protection policy, mental health policy, free and accessible BRT transport, accessible building code for public and private infrastructure.
