Ogun court remands man in prison over alleged rape of 8-year-old girl

An Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun on Friday remanded 38-year-old Taiwo Coker in prison custody for allegedly raping a minor.

The accused, who resides at No. 4, Unity Road, Ijoko in Ota area of Ogun, is being tried for raping a minor.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

But the prosecutor, Sgt. Rosemary Brown, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 4 at 4.00 p.m. at his residence.

She said the accused had carnal knowledge of an eight-year-old girl after enticing her with money.

She said the offence of the accused contravened Section 358 of the Criminal Code, Revised Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The Senior Magistrate, Miss Temitope Adebutu, said the accused should be remanded in prison custody pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on the case.

“The file and other related documents on this case should be sent to the DPP’s office for advice on the issue.’’

Further hearing in the case has been fixed for July 1.
