West African Ventures Limited, a 100 per cent indigenous oil and gas company, owned by a Nigerian, Jacques Roomans, has donated $1 million to the unfortunate victims of the recent devastating earthquake in Nepal.

This donation from the company, which is a subsidiary of the Sea Trucks Group, was made to help the country in the rehabilitation and treatment of those affected, treating the injured as well as helping families of those killed by this devastating earthquake.

The death toll from the earthquake has meanwhile risen to over 10,000 according to the home ministry’s national disaster management division of Nepal. More than 10,000 people are now known to have been injured in the 7.8-magnitude quake. Roomans, who is the President of Sea Trucks Group, disclosed in a short interview with journalists that the donation was designed to assist the government of Nepal to support the earthquake victims as part of the group’s corporate social responsibility (CSR).

The generosity of the company towards people in need is not happening for the first time, demonstrating a good example for corporate and successful individuals particularly in Nigeria to emulate. “We cannot close our eyes to those in need despite the downturn in oil price as a corporate organisation.

We feel deeply for the families of all Nepal citizens,” he lamented. Roomans called on Nigerians to continue to pray to God for such disasters to come to an end globally.
