Mushin gets state-of-the-art community healthcare centre

The local community of Mushin in Lagos State and its environs will now access quality healthcare services at an affordable cost, as a world class Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) has been established in the heart of the community.

Known as First Heritage Hospital (FHH), the facility sited at the location where the renowned Reddington Multi-Specialist Hospital began their journey into becoming a healthcare giant in the country is a 12-bed hospital, fully equipped with world-class equipment for treatment and management of various health conditions and is also in partnership with Redington Multi-Specialist Hospital for referrals.

Present at the inauguration were dignitaries that included Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Public Health, Dr. Mrs. Yewande Adeshina, the Senator representing Lagos West Senatorial District, Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, Chief Executive Officer, Reddington, Dr. Yomi Onabowale among others.

Speaking at the event, the Medical Director (MD), Dr. Babatunde Keku said that the birth of the hospital was necessitated by the overwhelming health needs of the community, which he noted is evidenced by the high percentage of incidence of communicable diseases, chronic ailments, easily preventable diseases especially in children and medical and surgical emergencies.

He stated that the hospital is a primary healthcare provider established to meet the yearning needs of the local community for provision of quality healthcare services.

According to him, “as a community healthcare provider, our main focus will be on the primary healthcare needs and some cases of secondary care of the local people in Mushin and surrounding neighbourhoods.

“Being a primary care facility, we posses all the characteristics of a PHC in that we are accessible and affordable to people in our community. We also have diagnostics centres which will service the hospital and the surrounding neighbourhoods.”

Keku listed services and facilities, which the hospital offers to include antenatal care and delivery facilities, ultramodern theatre for various surgical operations, laboratory and diagnostics services, ultrasound scan, Electrocardiogram (ECG), Radiological examinations with digital X-Ray machines and CT Scan among others.

He disclosed that the hospital has a working relationship with Reddington for referrals of their patients requiring specialist attention for specialized care at an affordable rate too with provisions for visiting specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G), surgery, paediatrics and internal medicine.

The MD added further that the hospital will promote healthy communities through the provision and concentration on preventive healthcare in the community which include championing health education, health mobilization and immunization, health screening for different age groups and sexes and identifying and preventing health issues and their attendant complications.

Meanwhile, Senator Gaaniyu Olanrewaju Solomon lauded the effort of the hospital directors for setting up such a facility as a PHC in the community.

The senator while calling for partnerships between companies and government in establishing this type of facilities in all the states and local government of the federation said that “if this type of facility is set up in all the 774 local governments in the country, it will bring healthcare to our doorsteps, curb medical tourism and bring relief to other medical facilities.”

The Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Public Health, Dr. Mrs. Yewande Adeshina expressed excitement for the partnership between the hospital and Reddington while also calling others to take a leaf from it.

She noted that the government cannot provide healthcare for all its citizens, adding that they will look for a way to have a Public Private Partnerships (PPP) with other health providers to bring this sort of quality at an affordable cost to other areas.
