THE Lagos state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday described the purported sack of it’s state chairman, Captain Tunji Shelle (rtd), as “laughable, null and void”.

The party in a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani also called on party members to discountenance the said sack even as he admonished the brains behind the action to retrace their steps and allow peace to reign in the party.

The reaction is coming on the backdrop of the alleged issuance of marching orders to Shelle and appointment of an interim chairman by the 34-member executive of the party after a meeting yesterday .

The statement by Gani reads: “The PDP reiterates that the state chairman leading the present state executive committee has delivered the best unprecedented electoral result to the party.

“It is therefore very irrational for any body or group to provoke acrimony in the party by claiming that the state chairman has not performed well enough to continue in office.

“The party also faulted the modus operandi employed by the detractors which offend the provisions of the the sack of a State chairman.

“The state chairman is a member of National Executive Committee (NEC) and can only be removed or suspended with the consent of the NEC.”
