Ijaw groups defend amnesty programme, task Okowa on youth empowerment

Former militant leaders in the Niger Delta region under the name Izon-Ibe Global Policy Network (IGPN), has appealed to the President –elect, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) to disregard calls from some quarters that his administration should terminate the amnesty programme initiated by the late President Umaru Yar’ Adua but advised that the new government should carry out an audit of the program.

In another development, an Ijaw group; Ijaw Progressive Agenda for Change (IPAC) has lauded the election of Ifeanyi Okowa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the governor of Delta State saying the state would experience more development under Okowa.

President of the group, Goddey Money stated this when members of the group had a get together with Deltans staying in Edo State to celebrate the victory in Benin City, Edo where he urged the in-coming government to take youth empowerment ad employment very seriously.

He said with meaningful engagement of young people in the state, there would reduction in crime and other violent activities of some young people.

He said “this is the time Delta and Deltans will enjoy massive development, both human and infrastructural development.”

While reacting to insinuations that some bigwigs were already trying to hijack the in coming government, Money said the victory was for all Deltans and nobody can lay claim of it.
