The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has alerted residents of Delta on the activities of conmen who posed as officials of the corps.

Mr Rindom Kumven, the FRSC Sector Commander in the state, raised the alarm in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba on Sunday.

Kumven said that the impostors usually called their victims and claimed to be FRSC officials on scenes of fatal accident which involved the victims’ relations or friends.

The sector commander said that the fake officials would claim to have got such numbers they called from the mobile telephones of the accident victims.

He said that the fraudsters were in the habit of requesting those called to send them money to commence treatment of the victims before their arrival.

Kumven said that they also claimed to be out of airtime and requested those called to send them recharge pins to enable them to call others affected.

He advised anyone that received such calls to always inform the FRSC, adding that this would enable the person to confirm whether or not there was any road crash in the state.

Kumven said such information from the public would also help the corps to identify, apprehend and prosecute those involved in the crime.
