PROF. OGBONNA Ibe-Enwo, Rector of Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Uwana, Ebonyi State, has announced the indefinite closure of the school following a crisis that erupted between the school and its host community over some parcels of land.

Prof. Ibe-Enwo disclosed that the closure of the school became imperative to ensure the safety of the students.

Crisis started last week when some aggrieved villagers from the community invaded the school with machetes and other dangerous weapons and destroyed properties, including tractors used for grading the internal roads in the school. They alleged that the erection of new structure on the disputed parcel of land, which the community and the school are laying claim to, was the immediate cause of the crisis.

Ibe-Enwo has described the development as unfortunate and called for understanding from the host community.
