Uduaghan commissions 447-metre flyover bridge in Effurun
DELTA State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has commissioned the 447-metre flyover bridge in Effurun, Uwvie Local Council to ease traffic congestion in Effurun and improve the aesthetics of the city.
Speaking during the commissioning at the weekend, he disclosed that the bridge, which was the second to be commissioned in the state within the last one week, was part of the state government’s urban renewal programmes aimed at improving traffic flow and the environmental beauty of the major towns in the state.
He said that the project, which was executed within 20 months proved critics wrong who were saying that the project has be abandoned.
Uduaghan appealed to motorists to be careful while using the bridge and warned criminal elements not to deface the project or turn the bridge into a criminals den as security agents would be let loose on them.
The governor assured the people of Uvwie that more projects aimed at improving the socio-economic lives of the people would be embarked upon.
Uduaghan commended Deltans for electing Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as governor and for their peaceful disposition during and after the elections.
The Commissioner for Works, Funkekeme Solomon, said that the project comprised 120- metreslong six span bridge; two ramps of 150- metre and 177- metres at the Sapele and Effurun approaches; and 1, 721 length of road.
He disclosed that the bridge and ramp structure comprised four-lane dual carriage-way with two lanes on each travel direction demarcated with a barrier.
While commending Uduaghan for the project which he said had improved the infrastructural development of the state, Hon. Solomon appealed to the people of the area to protect the project from vandalisation especially its rails.
The Chairman of Uvwie Local Council, Mr. Henry Minabowan and the Ovie of Uvwie, Abe 1 expressed gratitude for the project saying that the project was a fulfillment of Governor Uduaghan’s promise to leave a mark in the infrastructural development of the state.
They reminded the governor of other on-going projects in the area and expressed confidence that they would be completed in due course.
