BENUE State Governor Gabriel Suswam has commended the partnership with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, (UNHCR) which donated materials to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) across the state.

Suswam made the commendation while receiving agro seeds relief materials from the UNHCR in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Represented at the event by the state Commissioner for Justice, Philip Ierkwagh, the governor stressed that the international agency has remained one dependable platform for the state, whose contribution in the area of capacity building, direct material support and other governance initiatives can never be forgotten in a hurry.

While calling for the sustainability of such gestures, the governor recalled the invaluable contributions of UNHCR during the 2012 and 2013 floods disasters.

Earlier, while presenting the relief materials to the governor, Mr. Wahid Ben Amor, Senior Liaison Officer to UNHCR who stood in for the High Commissioner, Madame Angele Dikongue-Atangana posited that UNHCR relationship with Benue is reciprocal as the state government has equally been supportive to them over years.

Mr. Ben Amor noted that UNHCR is at the moment mainly supporting the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs with seeds to add value to their lives since they are virtually all agrarian. He further enjoined the beneficiaries to judiciously use the seedlings as well as the other materials.
