Smoke in Indonesian aircraft cabin cause panic

Julius Barata, Indonesian Transport Ministry spokesman, said the smoke came from the auxiliary power unit of the aircraft operated by Lion Air.

Several passengers were injured during evacuation of an Indonesian airline jet after smoke was noticed in the cabin at the airport tarmac on Friday.

The spokesman said the smoke was noticed as it was on the parking stand at Kualanamu Airport in the North Sumatran city of Medan.

Barata said several people were injured during the evacuation.

He said one passenger broke an arm after jumping from the aircraft’s emergency door and had to be treated in hospital.

The other passengers were transferred to another aircraft for their journey.
