Senate adjourns to honour Chukwumerije
THE Senate announced yesterday that it would proceed on a day holiday to mourn late Senator Uche Chukwumerije. Senate spokesman, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who disclosed this at the National Assembly yesterday, described the lawmaker as a political giant and one of the nation’s finest legislators.
He said: “The Senate will surely miss his erudite contributions on the floor of the chamber and his painstaking approach to committee work. Chukwumerije was indeed an embodiment of legislative tradition and consummate activists democrat who loved his people passionately.”
Chukwumerije, according to Abaribe, will be remembered for his deep love for Ndigbo, which was manifested in his relentless struggle for the total political and social emancipation of the race over the years.
Continuing, Abaribe said the late senator’s love for Nigeria and her corporate existence was unprecedented. Also yesterday, Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN) described the death of Senator Uche Chukwumerije on Sunday in the Turkish Hospital, Abuja, “as a sad loss for Nigeria.” In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, Ndoma-Egba also described Chukwumerije as a political giant and one of the nation’s finest legislator.
