The second edition of African Food and Drinks Festival was held over the Easter holiday, and saw food lovers from all part of the globe gather at The EFUA AUTHERLAND Park in Accra Ghana to indulge in a plethora of meals over 10 African Countries.

Thousands of guests attended the event as Ghanaian and tourist alike took the rare opportunity to get a taste of a diverse array of good food from renowned local vendor to star restaurants in one place. People got a chance to get up close and personal with many of the hardworking chefs and vendors who were there to whip up the food themselves. The brain behind the concept is Kevin Eze, a Nigerian food enthusiast, blogger, and marketing professional who founded the African Food Network in 2014.

“African cuisine offers a lot of potential and is very diverse. We at African Food Network want to use the festival to raise awareness and recognition for African food. We simply want to make Africa look cool by working a reorientation for the majority of the young ones that are already getting swayed by the western food culture”, Kevin says.

The African Food and Drinks Festival is a great reflection of Africa’s brilliant and diverse local food culture, whilst also attracting leading thrill lovers from all over the world through music, food and arts. That sense of community spirit is as integral to Kevin and the organizers. “Bringing people together who are Black, white, old, young, rich, poor and everything in between creates a unique friendly atmosphere and ambience, something I’ve not witnessed anywhere else.” Kevin elaborates.

At the contemporary festival of African cuisine and culture, Food vendors showcased their homegrown recipes ranging from traditional cuisine, seafood, and vegan cuisine in an atmosphere of camaraderie, while restaurants offered meals that combined modern and traditional kitchen, local and international, presented in an attractive and entertaining way. From Ghana’s traditional fermented corn meal Banku, Waakye, Akotonshi, Akple, Kelewele, Tuo Zaafi to Chinchinaga were all on display on that day.

With the perfect pairing of food and refreshments comes the entertainment. The line-up for this year’s edition included the hugely popular Ghanaian television/ radio personality and Host of TV series in GHANA DATE RUSH Giovanni Caleb, Curvaceous social media star Felicia Osei, TikTok sensation, Wesley Kesse and digital creator, Kojo Sheldon. Hundreds of food enthusiast listened to sensational Kweku Darlington as the Ghanaian singer and producer, took to the stage shortly after and gave his best performance of his hit songs such as ‘Baabi Awu’ and the wildly popular Sika Aba Fie’.

A few stand-up comedians present delivered hilarious jokes and punch lines that further thrilled the audience. Also in attendance were top entertainers, social media influencers, and On-Air-Personalities in the city of Accra. African Food and Drinks Festival was indeed packed with culture, diversity, flavorful tastes, simplicity, and entertainment as the crowd was entertained with fun activities such as the thrilling Masquerade and cultural dance display by various groups. Also featuring eating competitions between TV3 and Crockhouse media, face painting, horse ride, amazing African board games, paint and many more, the African Food and Drinks Festival truly proved to be a place to be.

Every member of the African Food Network, Sponsors and even the attendees contributed to the success of this event. “We aim very high with our goals and vision for this festival, from our future roll out plan it’s certainly going to be the largest gathering of black people for food and can be mentioned alongside a few top world class festivals. We couldn’t have asked for a better.
