THE House of Assembly member-elect in Obokun Constituency, Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye has expressed gratitude to the people of his constituency for reposing confidence in him through their votes in the Saturday elections.

Oyintiloye, who contested under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 9,499 to defeat his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opponent, Mayowa Adejorin who polled 7,130.

The lawmaker acknowledged the electorate in his constituency for standing firm to ensure that their votes count in his favour despite unwholesome activities of those he described as agents of darkness, “who plotted to undermine and truncate the popular wishes of the people.”

He recalled that members and agents of his party were molested, intimidated and chased away, while some were specifically shot in Ilase town by PDP thugs, saying, “This ugly development did not deter the people from exercising their franchise.”

According to him, “In the course of the election, there were harassment of our people, interruptions by fake security personnel moving around with unregistered Toyota Hilux van.”

Oyintiloye alleged that these elements hijacked ballot boxes and other materials, specifically in Ward 2, Unit 6, Oja Tuntun and disrupted voting in Ward 4 unit 9 ‎Olorunda.

He said, “Despite this intimidation, our people stood firm and defied the attempt to deny them their franchise. This has shown that the people indeed have become not only politically awaken, but defender of democracy.”

He then lauded the security agencies for responding promptly to complaints in flashpoints areas.

Oyintiloye lamented that even after the election, report reaching him indicated that some hoodlums loyal to the PDP, particularly in ward 3 Ikinyinwa and ward 4 Olorunda, Ibisomi, Coker and Oniyere unleashed terror on APC members.

This threat, he alleged, had led to displacement of people that are loyal to APC to seek refuge in neighbouring communities, calling on security agencies to live up to expectations.

He also gave kudos to his PDP opponent for being courageous enough to concede defeat, disclosing that the PDP candidate whom he defeated had send a text and a call to him on phone to congratulate him on his victory.

The lawmaker-elect however thanked the people of his constituency, specifically APC leaders and members other political and non-political groups, traditional rulers, religious leader, market men and women, artisan, societies group youths for their support before during and after the election.

Calling for more support from his constituents in order to ensure his success, he promised that he would give his best in accordance with the mandate given to him by the people.
