ECHOES of Boko Haram terrorist hideout, Sambisa Forest in Borno State, filled the exhibition hall at Freedom Park, Lagos, yesterday, as Lagos State Commissioner for Culture and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Mr. Disu Holloway declared open the yearly Lagos Black Heritage Festival (LBHF 2015).

Stating some of the ideals of the festival, which includes promoting and preserving the Yoruba culture and by extension the Nigerian and African culture, Holloway visited some of the exhibition stands to see the activities there.

At different exhibition stands, the plight of the 219 Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped, a year ago, resonated, as the artists, all school children, told traumatic stories with their paintings. The theme of the art exhibition is, The Road to Sambisa.’

Also, there were poetic renditions, where some other children cast the dire situation of the Chibok schoolgirls, who are in faraway Borno State in the hands of their abductors.

Declaring the weeklong cultural fiesta open were Festival Consultant, Prof. Wole Soyinka and many culture practitioners like Taiwo Ajayi-Lycett, Chief Emanuel Francesca, Sir Peter Badejo, Tunji Oyelana and Jimi Solanke.
