Ihedioha faults results, acknowledges INEC’s declaration
THE governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha, has accepted the results of the just concluded re-run election in the state.
He, however, faulted the exercise, citing alleged irregularities. Briefing journalists at his residence in Owerri on the results in which Governor Rochas Okorocha was declared the winner on yesterday, Ihedioha alleged that the polls were marred by irregularities.
He added that despite that over 25 members of staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were arrested for alleged electoral fraud perpetrated in favour of his opponent, INEC went ahead to declare the results in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate.
He, however, said that as a law-abiding citizen he would acknowledge the declaration of the results by the Commission, disclosing that he would examine this and communicate appropriately to the people on his next decision.
The press briefing was attended by a member of the Board of Trustees of the PDP, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the party’s chairman in the state, Chief Nnamdi Anyaehie, PDP national woman leader, Dr. Kema Chikwe, his running mate, Chief China Nnaji, among others.
He said: “In spite of the proven widespread incidents of swapping of PDP votes in favour of APC, all of which eroded the validity and credibility of the exercise, INEC has gone ahead to declare the APC candidate as winner. “As a democrat and a law-abiding citizen, I wish to acknowledge the declaration of results by INEC.
We will study the details announced very carefully and communicate our position soon.” Ihedioha urged the people to remain peaceful, thanking them for their support.
