The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Ahmad Mohammad said yesterday said that “the manhunt of rescuing him safely is still on-going.”

According to Mohammad: “Our men are on the lookout of where he is being kept and I can assure that we anticipate a breakthrough.” Amaechi was kidnapped at gunpoint at Mile 4 area of Port Harcourt at about 7.40p.m. of the said day while returning from work.

A family source said that Amaechi, who hails from a community in Etche Local Council of the state was just about two poles close to his own house when the gunmen stopped the car and whisked him away to an unknown destination.

The source further disclosed that the yet-to-be identified gunmen shot sporadically into the air to scare away people. Attempts by his Mobile Police Orderly to give them a chase failed as the gunmen who were about four in number shot the man dead on the spot.

It should be recalled that medical doctors in the state have of recent become targets of kidnap leading to some of them being killed or maimed in the hands of their abductors.
