CONFEDERATION CUP: Warri Wolves Walk Tight Rope, Win 2-1

NIGERIA’S only surviving club in this year’s CAF competitions, Warri Wolves, may have boxed themselves to a tight corner, following a slim 2-1 victory against visiting MK of Congo yesterday at the Warri City Stadium.

Super Eagles striker, Gbolahan Salami, who celebrated his birthday on Wednesday, scored a brace for Wolves, only for them to concede one in the second half. It could have been worst if Kabangu Kadiama had scored a penalty awarded the Congolese midway into the second half.

Salami struck in the 6th minutes and made it two in the second half after a good job by Karo Etebo. Delta State Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan had charged the players during a visit to the team on Friday to beat the Congolese with many goals so as to make the second leg a mere formality. He boosted their morale by promising to make money available to the team this week.

Meanwhile, an official of the Warri Wolves has said that the decision by the technical crew to allow two of their players, Abu Azeez and Egbulegbu Chukwu, to travel with the beach soccer team to Seychelles, accounted for their not too good performance yesterday.

“We don’t have a good midfield due to the absence of those two players. I don’t know why the coaches allowed them to travel for the beach soccer competition,” he said.
