Botswana shocked Kenya 3-0 this weekend when the 2016 Olympic Games football qualifiers in Africa kicked off.

Striker Omaatla Kebatho scored four minutes after half-time and three minutes from time for the Baby Zebras in southern town Lobatse.

Midfielder Kabelo Seakanyeng was the other Botswana goal-grabber, doubling the lead 53 minutes into a first-round, first-leg eliminator.

The countries meet again between May 8 and 10 in Kenya with the overall winners securing a second-round date against former Olympics qualifiers Zambia.

Kenya were expected to perform better in the under-23 competition as they had a competitive match-practice advantage having played Egypt recently in an All-Africa Games qualifier.

A squad guided by Scotland-born former Uganda coach Bobby Williamson also visited the Seychelles islands to play several warm-up games.

But the Kenyan cause was not helped by administrative bungling that resulted in the squad reaching Botswana only on the day of the match.

Plans to travel via Johannesburg had to be shelved at the last minute because the east Africans applied too late for transit visas.

In other weekend fixtures, Rwanda host Somalia in Kigali and 1992 Olympics bronze medalists Ghana have home advantage over Liberia in Tamale
